From June through August, Sanctuary educators welcomed 42 campers, ages 6-10, for a full week of outdoor, hands-on, nature activities. Rotating weekly themes included Animal Architects, Hoots & Howls, Insect Investigators, Wild Wings & Bird Nerds, and Talons, Teeth and Claws – each allowing kids to dive deeply into the week’s topic and learn key animal identification and wildlife conservation lessons.
Our first year was a great success! Here’s what parents told us about their child’s favorite camp activity in our online survey:
-
"The swamp buggy was amazing, origami and games were all great! They also loved touching the furs and seeing tracks. I loved looking at their nature journals, too."
-
"Going out on the boardwalk, the swamp buggy, drawing on the mural, and, he loved the classroom."
-
"They just loved it! Debbie is amazing at what she does and both the Stephanies were great. I’d love for there to be a monthly, homeschool-type of experience like this, but the camp was probably one of the best parts of our summer! My kids will do this every year."
-
"My children LOVED the swamp buggy ride, but really everything was a hit for them. They had fun with the hikes, and the board games, they adored water slide time, and they came home with lots of stories about making the rules and what they learned each day."
-
"He loved everything! He wanted to come back the next week!"
-
"My daughter loved everything so, I’m sorry but I can’t narrow it down."
We look forward to more Wild Florida Adventures next summer.
